Make a plan of your day’s activities and stick to the plan.
At the end of each day, please make a plan before you leave office. Allocate proper time for execution to each activity. Then do not allow yourself to deviate from the set plan.
Have a back up plan for each activity.
In case your original plans fail, the back up plans may be utilized to make your day productive. The best way to utilize your time is to have at least two or three major projects going on at each point of time. This may not be possible, but try to put in deadlines to each of your activities. In this way, you can avoid delays, i.e. while you are waiting for the client’s feedback, you can work on the other project.
In case you work as a freelancer, also try to develop your business. This will help you to get more clients. This will improve your productivity and help you to earn more revenue.
Take your time, in order to plan a project execution, as this will help in improving the quality of delivery. Moreover, it will also help in understanding the client’s expectation, and allow you to concentrate on deliverables, smoothly. Consequently will reduce all your efforts, in closing the deal happily, within delivery framework and thus impress the client.
In case you are not so much interested to deliver a few projects, concentrate on them first. Then consider interesting projects. This will help you to be motivated, in the long run. At the same time, it will help you in balancing your work, smoothly without getting frustrated, in case the former projects require more time.
Try to maintain a time sheet.
Try to maintain a time sheet, and find out where are the loopholes which debar you from not completing a project on time. This will also help you in identifying your strengths and weaknesses. For instance, checking your email, which is quite important, but wastes lot of your precious time. This is as you concentrate constantly on incoming mails which are new and try to reply back. Avoid checking mails frequently.
Keep a time slot exclusively in the morning hours and late evening hours when you can check and reply back to your urgent mails. Remember to reply back only on urgent mails. Other mails can be dealt with later. In case, you have to stay in touch with your clients frequently, please use a telephone, or a skype id. Stop wasting time by logging in to social networking sites, reading blogs, or just surfing the internet, without any actual purpose.
Reduce your activities into specific action plans.
If you get a new project on branding, sit with the client and your creative director to choose your action plans stepwise. Identify deadlines for each action plan. Review the plan, once done to check the gaps. This will induce creativity, reduce stress and provide peace of execution through active progress of the project.
Take a break if you need that!
Very often people waste time on mundane projects wasting their energies and getting frustrated. In this case, essentially take a break. Do anything you feel like, i.e. riding, biking or playing tennis. Go for a movie for relaxation. Take your mind off the project, only to come back more creative.
Give a try to different routines, if possible. If you design well in the morning, please schedule it in the morning. Use afternoons for research work, especially after lunch, when you’d like to relax a little, at the same time enjoy your work. If you are good at early hours, wake up early.
